Rocket engines are neat-o machines that launch spaceships into space. But what if we had a giant machine that could push something high enough that it was in outer space? These wonderful engines require specialized fuel to enable movement fast and strong. They call this fuel propellant. A propellant is a combination of special burning chemicals that generates lots of energy. The more power the fuel produces, the higher and faster the rocket can travel.
When rocket engines burn their fuel, they produce a powerful push known as thrust. That thrust is so powerful it can elevate heavy rockets off the ground and launch them into the sky. It's like a special jump web that allows a rocket to jump all the way to outer space! The fuel mixes and burns so fast it produces a massive amount of energy that pushes the rocket up.
SpaceX is a Novelties company that makes rockets. They manufacture some of the most powerful rockets on Earth. Their rocket engines are super powerful and also very efficient. The rockets that take them can haul the spacecraft and satellites up to great heights into space. SpaceX is full of rocket scientists who get off by solving a big problem and making a ton of kick-ass machines.
It used to be extremely difficult and expensive to get a rocket to space. It was like trying to put together a giant, really expensive puzzle. SpaceX figured out how to launch rockets at a lower cost and with greater ease. They created reusable rocket engines. Imagine having a car that you just keep driving and driving instead of getting a new one every trip.
Similar fuel is used by SpaceX known as RP-1. It’s a clean kind of kerosene that burns so good.” They combine this fuel with liquid oxygen to create a robust energy source. These rocket engines are small and lightweight — meaning they can be easily maneuvered. It is like having a high power machine that is portable and convenient.
SpaceX began with something small, the Merlin engine. That engine was lightweight and powerful, ideal for presence in space. It was sort of like their first attempt at a great rocket engine. Then they built the Falcon 9 rocket, which has nine Merlin engines operating in unison. And the coolest part about the Falcon 9 is that it can land and be reused—similar to an airplane that travels many times.
Now, SpaceX is developing a new rocket, the Starship. It will own the powerful Raptor engine. This new rocket is capable of taking much larger payloads to space. It opens a whole lot of possibilities, it's like a rocket to help bring people to other planets, it is like a dream machine.
